A central component of the project involved retrofitting the Glendale Civic Center’s overhead fixtures, including its well-known chandeliers, with energy efficient LED kits. The result modernized the lighting system without altering the look and feel that visitors and event organizers value.

“One of the challenges we ran into was replacing the overhead chandeliers,” said Cliff Faraci, operations manager for McKinstry. “Sometimes, an outright replacement isn’t the best path forward. We worked with our subcontractor and the city to retrofit the existing fixtures so we could preserve the aesthetic they really liked while upgrading to LED.”

Modern Controls Improve Efficiency and Performance

The retrofit project also incorporated updated lighting controls and occupancy sensors, giving Glendale Civic Center staff more flexibility and precision in managing illumination across the facility. These improvements reduce energy consumption, support more consistent lighting during events and cut operational costs.
